FIXED Function Documentation: FIXED Add Label?

In the kb article for FIXED functions, an example for FIXED ADD is shown where the City dimension is added in the calculation. This is straightforward, but what I can't figure out is: how on earth is the user displaying the name of the city on the chart?

Obviously the function will return the value: MAX(SUM(`Total Sales`) FIXED (ADD `City`)) but how do we display the name of the associated city?

    @chapman - I don't think this is how it was done in the KB article, but here is an example of how you could achieve the same outcome. Note, this doesn't make use of a fixed function.

    If we create a beast mode "city_state_rank".

    rank() over (partition by state order by SUM(amount) desc)

    We can then filter to where rank = 1

    and set up our visualization to display state on the x-axis and city name as a tooltip value.

    Above is the example data I'm using to show that we are still aggregating by city/state and ranking appropriately.

    If I had to venture a guess, they are most likely using referencing another column (City) in the dataset and using that in a tooltip field that they are then referencing in the data label settings.

    @david_cunningham That can't be it — if I use City as a tooltip, it changes the granularity of the chart.
