"Data Handling" not visible in Config for a Google Sheets Dataset

Hi yall! I'm watching the intro videos on the Domo Youtube channel, and the video on Inputs and Outputs introduced the Data Handling section under the Configuration tab for input datasets in a dataflow. I have a dataflow that changed a column's datatype via a 3-node process, so I thought I would quickly optimize this. However, when I selected the dataset, I didn't see a Data Handling section. Has it been removed? In the video, it is being done on a google sheet input, so I don't think it would be because of the dataset type.

Thanks for your help! I'm also pretty new here, so please let me know if there are any other recommended learning materials. Have a good one!

I don't use Snowflake. So I can't test that. But in every dataset I tried, I get a the data handling options @ColemenWilson shows. And the icon he shows looks like your redacted dataset type.

  • I am seeing it, here is where it is located now. Not sure when the video you watched was recorded, but it may have just moved around.

  • Could you share a link to the video you watched? That might help clarify the context.

The tabs you see can vary depending on the dataset's origin. For example, was the dataset created through a connector (like Google Sheets), or is it the output of another dataflow? This can affect whether the Data Handling section appears under the Configuration tab.

If you're trying to manage datatypes more broadly, you might also want to explore the Schema Management tool under Admin > Governance. It allows you to set and manage datatypes for many datasets centrally.

Personally, I found it surprising at first that Domo often auto-assigns datatypes. I prefer having more control up front—I've seen a lot of ETLs built just to correct column types, which seems avoidable with better schema management early on.

Thanks for the helpful responses! I watched the video, "3.2 - Inputs and Outputs" from the Domo youtube channel at the link below. I've also attached a screenshot of my view; it looks like I don't have that tab for some reason. We use Snowflake, could that be the cause of the issue? We are using the base Google Sheets connector, I believe.

    Thanks again for the help!

Gotcha, sounds like it may be a Snowflake thing then. Thanks again!

  • @ColemenWilson - is your screenshot showing a Snowflake dataset? Based on the icon, it looks the same as the question. Which would mean, it is not Snowflake..but something else.

I'm not entirely clear on the connector you're using, but I see 'Data Handling' on a Snowflake dataset. Which Snowflake connector are you using? I use a few different ones, so I'm happy to try to see if the issue is specific to the connector type.

  • It shouldn't matter since you are using the Google Sheets connector. I would recommend reaching out to Domo Support.
