Group Total - Aggregated Series

Community,

Is it possible to have a drill down that retains the prior level's aggregated top-level value?

I.e. I want to be able to drill down from an overview, into a series specific break out (And here's the kicker) while maintaining an additional series that displays the group total from the prior drill down.

For example, we have 7 locations, each with a given value, which can be aggregated to a group total.

Is it possible to somehow retain the "Group Total" series within the same chart?

Yes, you can. One way is to create an ETL that does the aggregate (total) and joins it back to the details.

    location

    value

    location1

    100

    location2

    200

    location3

    300

    result after joining

    location

    value

    group total

    location1

    100

    600

    location2

    200

    600

    location3

    300

    600

    • Create a bar chart (or another card) using the value as the metric.
    • Add the "Group Total" as a secondary series, by adding it as an additional value in the "Series" field.
    • Adjust the series visualization (make the group total a line while keeping individual values as bars).

If you can't do the transform, another method would be to leverage "over".

    SUM(Value) OVER ()
