Best updating/appending method for sales records?

So I need to append new sales records every end of month. The sales records are stored as Excel Sheet with these columns: Order Date, Product ID, Customer ID, Sales Amount, Unit Price, Qty, Ship Date.
So normally I would just go to the dataset → setting → upload new month dataset in → updating method: append
Just wondering if this is the best practice? For example: I have already appended Sept sales Records into the dataset last week, however, the sales records changed this week → I updated the Excel sheet, but I can't append this updated Sept sales records into the dataset anymore since it would create duplicates.

@verytiredgirl You can delete a previous update from the History tab of the dataset. Navigate to the row associated with that upload, open the "Actions" menu on the right, and select "Delete this update". I believe you need to be the owner of the dataset for this option to be visible.
