Don't want chart to show the aggregation (SUM), but also want to be able to filter in App
I have an App with a Branch filter (nothing is selected) & a bar charting showing Total Amount $ overtime
I do not want the bar chart to show SUM(total amount) of all branches when no branch is selected. The default should display one branch, with the option to reselect using the Branch filter.
Option 1: I set the branch_id
column as a ‘Quick Filter’ and selected one branch in Analyzer. It shows that branch in the App, but changing the branch with the Branch Filter doesn’t work unless you expand the card.
Option 2: In the App, I selected one branch and created a default Filter View. This works when selecting another branch with the Branch Filter, but the Filter View applies to all cards in the App, whereas I only want it for the bar chart

@GrantSmith taught me how to do this here:

@ColemenWilson I think it's slightly different for my case. So instead of forcing a selection on a Filter Card. I want to force a selection on a Bar Card/Chart, with an option to filter with a Filter Card later on.

Ahhhhh that's way easier! Just add the quick filter, make a selection in analyzer view to the quick filter and then save!Forcing a selection on the filter will force a selection on the bar chart. It changes the user experience only slightly. If you are opposed to that you could use a separate dataset for the bar chart from the rest of the app. It could contain the same data but a different field name for the filter that applies to the bar chart. That way you can set a default view that only applies to the bar chart. Other filters will work for the entire page. Downside is that adjusting the filter in the filter view would continue to only apply to the bar chart.

What I've done for forcing a single selection dynamically is calculate the row number based on a key with a window function and always select rows with the first key found so that only one record is found. You can apply this on the card filter.
