GA4 Metric and Dimension Validation Best Practice

When setting up the GA4 connector for the first time it can be difficult to identify the metrics and dimensions needed to replicate the Google Analytics Dashboard. The quickest method I've found to identify the correct dimension names and metric values is to use the GA4 Query explorer.

To use the GA4 Query explorer to validate your Google Analytics Dashboard, make sure you are signed into the applicable google account when accessing the page.

Next select the account and property you're wanting to validate.

Under the Set parameters header choose a date range for you query and select the metrics and dimensions to match your Google Analytics Dashboard you are wanting to validate.

Make sure your date dimension matches your selection on your dashboard. If your dashboard is displaying a single day or a date range, choose 'Day'. For a calendar month choose 'Year month', and for yearly selections choose 'Year'.

After your selections are made, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on MAKE REQUEST to view the results of your query.

Once you've validated your metrics and dimensions using the query explorer you can apply the same logic to your Domo GA4 Connector to get the same results.
