How does the dashboard level filter work?

Can someone explain how the filter in the upper right part of the dashboard works?

Does it filter charts by all dates that exist within their datasets? For example, if I have a dataset that has multiple date fields (registration date, order date, shipping date, returned date, etc.) and I select a date range of 1/1-1/7... does it filter out all rows of data in which any of the date values fall outside that range?

Or does it only filter charts with dates?

    Good morning @NathanDorsch

    This is the equivalent of going into every card details present in your dashboard and adjusting the date range that is next to the title one at the time. the "Choose Date" in the top right corner does it for you all at once.


    as long as the card is using a valid Date field , it does not matter if in one card the name of the field is 'Date' and in other cards the name is 'Date_Adjusted'... each card will adjust accordingly based on the date field it uses independently ... pretty cool ๐Ÿ‘Œ

    It will filter out all rows in the dataset that have an order date that doesn't fall within that week

    It will only filter based on the date field being used in your selector not all the date field in your dataset

    @NathanDorsch the date filter on the dashboard operates on each card's respective date filter. So for your example - the page filter for 1/1/22/-1/7/22 means that the card you created will filter on order date where it falls in the range 1/1/22-1/7/22.


    If you created another card on the same dashboard, and the card's date filter was based on registration date, then applying the page filter 1/1/22-1/7/22 would mean card 1 would be as above, and the new card 2 would filter for registration date in 1/1/22 - 1/7/22.

    Thanks guys, I'm still a little confused. Let's say I have a dataset with the following date fields: registration date, order date, shipping date, returned date. Each order is captured on one row with all 4 of these date fields. And these dates of course could cover a wide range of time for one particular value.

    Let's say I create a card which is factoring in the order date... and I filter with the page filter to 1/1/22-1/7/22. Will this filter out all rows in the dataset that have an order date that doesn't fall within that week? Or will it filter out all rows in the dataset that have any date field that doesn't fall within that week?

    When you configure a card, if you're displaying multiple dates on the axis, you can choose which column you filter on based on the Date Range Field.


    Typically the field will default to the first field you show on the card.
