Can i change a column Name on workbench upload?

Example: I currently have a column named "REFF" and the dataset is used by 2 cards, when i try to update the column name to "REF" in workbench, it errors with "no matching element found".  Once you make the initial dataset, are you set-in-stone with the column names and number of columns?  I have it set to "replace dataset", but i guess it doesnt wipe and create new? 

 

Trying to see if there is an easy way to rename a workbench column dataset.
