Re: Mega Table: Show Subtotal Rows auto adding the 1st column in Sorting?
I would go with the pivot table, but you have to be careful with your sorting columns. For example, I have this super-simple dataset in a pivot table:
If I put some conflicting sorts, it generates that error. IMO, Domo pivot tables should be able to handle this, but they can't, so here we are.
However, I can sort the Lender however I want, as long as I make sure the sorting columns don't conflict. The safest thing is to use sorts that are aggregated by the groups you want to be able to collapse/subtotal on the left of the table. For example, I could get totals by Lender with:
And then use that to sort my lender groups first. Then a second column to sort within those groups without breaking the table.
If you show a mocked up example of your data and what sorts you're using that are producing that error, we could troubleshoot.
Re: Comparing period over period dynamically with Month End Date variable
Hi @verytiredgirl ,
When I'm trying to do comparisons like this I format my data so that when a date is selected, it will have all the other associated dates with it and then you can just use some beast modes to get the relative values. I've done a write up on this method here:
Re: How many X did we do in Y?
Maybe AI is the answer, but I find it interesting no one is saying they have successfully used AI to do this, just that it seems like AI should be good for this.
Each ad hoc data request is an opportunity to learn and build connection. What are your stakeholders curious about? Why can’t your current views answer the questions being asked? Is it really a one-off question, or something that will get asked again every week/month/quarter? Let’s say that the AI assistant can answer these questions (would love to hear someone was successfully getting value out of it, not just in theory), I would be wary of missing out on those opportunities to learn from and build relationships with my stakeholders.
Re: In the Activity Log - What is a Container View?
There is an idea that @MichelleH posted last year to provide documentation on activity log events/actions. I would suggest others go upvote! This is a huge need for observability and something that should be a relatively easy lift for Domo. @BenSchein
In the Activity Log - What is a Container View?
I have someone in an instance with thousands of action every day at the same times.
Action = CREATED
Object_Type = CONTAINER_VIEW
I checked the object names and found that they are cards. It appears that this has something to do with the page's scheduled report, but It's only got a few of the cards reporting this behavior. I checked the math on the number of recipients of the scheduled report and the number of objects generating container views, and the math works out.
But what makes these cards generate these actions, when nothing else on the page does and other scheduled reports don't generate this activity?
Re: Custom CSS for App Studio Apps (+ maybe code injections)
I 100% agree, I am looking to do this for a few apps, and ended up here :) There is a lot of value, and I manage multiple apps, but I want to be able to adjust the styles for all of them easily.
Re: Taking an average of the dataset an comparing
I like @DashboardDude 's variable suggestion. I went down a couple other rabbit holes that weren't working. I'll write up my implementation of his idea, but all credit to his idea.
This is my dummy data, where each lender has some different number of loans each year:
Without any variables or filters, my table would look like this:
Based on these 2 BMs (I tend to use Domo's fixed functions, but I imagine these do about the same thing as your over():
Adding a variable:
I adjust my Total Loans to only use the Loan IDs when the variable matches the Lender:
That works now to only give Totals and Production for the selected Lender:
I can also filter the period, and still get the correct values:
Now I can use that production based on a variable to populate a Gauge:
Some notes:
- Make sure to include the Control for the variable on your dashboard.
- If a user filters the Lender, this will give the wrong numbers. Don't include the Lender as a filter card, and if the user has the ability to add filters in the Controls, give them a warning about doing it for lender
- This is responsive to other filters, like on the Period.
Re: Custom CSS for App Studio Apps (+ maybe code injections)
Also an additional layer on top of this would be the ability to keep the custom CSS as part of the app theme when creating a new app and importing the theme from an existing app!
Re: There is no Line Label setting for Symbol Line Chart?
They likely were developed independently of each other. This would be a great idea for the idea exchange to recommend the Domo team implement and allow other users to vote on this.
