Re: December Community Recap
A deep honor!! 🤝
I'd like to thank my dog for always encouraging me, my ergonomic mouse with side-scroll functionality that lets me easily get to the 329th column, and my team for their outlandish requests that always require new skills to be obtained in Domo.
Onward!! ⛷️⛷️⛷️⛷️
Identify Column vs Row PDP policies
PDP icons appear on cards, but they don't indicate if row level or column level PDP has been applied. If the help text could be updated to display which has been applied that would be helpful for end users.
New Formula Functions in Magic ETL
Hi friends,
Just a quick post here to let you know about a couple new formula functions that have been added to the Magic formula editor. Not a big enough thing to warrant its own product release, but just a little note here to let you know about them:
- ROW_NUMBER(), which would normally be used with an OVER clause, can now be used without an OVER clause in the Add Formula, Group By, and Filter Rows tiles. It evaluates to an incrementing integer beginning with 1 for each incoming row to the tile. It is especially useful for working with data where the original order is important but there is not a column that contains a value that could be sorted on.
- DATE() can now be invoked with three integer arguments, the year, month, and day. So to get the 15th of the month of an existing date
d, you could write:date(year(d), month(d), 15), which is more elegant than concatenating together a string and parsing it with STR_TO_DATE. (Don't even pretend you've never done that, I've seen what you do…)
Let me know if you have any questions!
Take care,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Magic ETL Product Manager
Re: Rename Column or Create New Column
Actually, under Edit Columns there is a transform called Add Constants. This is how you add a new column via Magic ETL. If you leave the Constant Value field blank, it will create the column without populating it.

December Community Member of the Month: @Data_Devon
@Data_Devon has jumped onto the scene since May and has accumulated a ton of community cred. Although new to the BI & Analytics space he has climbed the leaderboard by being active each week. Not only did you provided a "sliver of value" (his words), you provided the entire pie this month! Huge thanks for all you do for the Domo Community!

Multiple Custom Fonts
It would be very useful for companies with specific branding to be able to create multiple custom fonts. While it's not mentioned that this capability is limited in the documentation, you are only able to edit an existing custom font if one was created but there is not ability to create additional custom fonts. This, along with the ability to utilize custom fonts in App Studio.
Enable Table Card Row / Position Numbering
I would like to put forward a proposal for Domo team to enable row or position numbering in Table card. This is extremely helpful in group discussion where one can just refer to a particular row number in the table for which is being referenced.
The numbering also needs to be dynamic and remain in the ascending order all the time regardless of any filter and sorting which are being applied in real-time to the Table card.
There is currently two options but none of which can work in our use case, it's as below and I will explain why it doesn't work for us:
1) Add row numbering in ETL - this will permanently add row numbers into the dataset itself but as your datasets starts to grow into the hundreds of thousands of row the number will just keep growing. So in your table even if you've applied filter to bring down the total row in the table to say 10 rows, instead of showing Row no. 1 to 10, the row number column will show the row count stamp in the dataset, so if the tenth row in the table is a millionth record in the dataset it will show 1,000,000 in the row number column, which this definitely don't work
2) Rank beastmode, this formula work but only to a certain degree as you would need to add a sorting order in the formula itself. However when a user do a sort in the Table itself it will override the row numbering in the Table itself which can cause random row number order in the table view
The only real option right now in Domo is to use a Sumo table, as this will always show the row/position number what is on your table, however there are restrictions in the UX of a Sumo Table.
All I am asking for is to have an option within the Chart Properties to enable row/position numbering for Table cards, and for the numbering to always be ascending regardless or what is being filtered or sorted in the table.
Show a warning when editing a card that is on multiple pages/apps/etc.
Just as there is a warning when editing dashboards that are embedded externally, there should be a warning when editing cards that appear on multiple dashboards. Ideally it would say "You are editing a card that exists across x pages" then the x is a link you can hover and a popup there would show all the pages it is on.
I usually do a decent job of staying on top of this but too often are cards edited on one dashboard without realizing the effects it will have in the context of another dashboard or app. Additionally, the Move/Copy for cards in app studio is basically non-existent unless you go into the card details page and look there.
A warning such as this would reduce most of these errors to nil and prompt the decision to "Save As" a copy of the card first before making edits and losing the history for that card creating much more work.
Apply color rules based on one column's values to other columns
There are so many use cases where this would be applicable. I am seeing a number of other discussions about this, but not any that are actually in the Idea Exchange. So I am posting it here just in case. If it already exists, someone please let me know and I will upvote that one.
