Re: View as user or view as role
Hi, @JasonAltenburg, @DataMaven, @afranklin, @Kyrsten and everyone. Thank you all for being engaged in the Community Forum and for posting here in the Ideas Exchange!
While I know this particular ideas thread is about "view as", we've also heard feedback that there are use cases for taking action as another user: "act as". Here's a hypothetical use case: "I want to create a carefully curated experience for our new CFO that we're onboarding to the Domo platform. Of course I want to make sure they have access to all the right apps and data; but I also want to validate that they have the right role/grants to use Domo the way they need; and I want to add a few important cards to their Favorites."
I've appreciated the opportunity to talk at length with some of you about this and with your help I think we've found a good path forward; Let me provide some insight into how we're approaching this.
We're still working through some solution design considerations, but we're hoping to move forward with User Impersonation. This new capability to impersonate another Domo user would be limited to admin-type users (controlled by a new admin-level grant), and start/end and justification for impersonation would be logged. During the time-limited impersonation session, the admin-type user would be able to both view Domo as the user, and also act in Domo on that user's behalf.
Using this approach, we would be able to address both the need to view and act as another user. And while it may seem counterintuitive, we believe this is also our most efficient approach. So, don't worry: we wouldn't be delaying "view as" while we build "act as".
Finally, I imagine some Domo customers may not want to allow this functionality at all. For those customers we'll be able to entirely disable the feature.
That's a wall of text. If you made it this far - thanks for reading! Obviously, please feel free to share additional ideas and feedback here. I'll try to provide updates, too. And again, thanks for being part of the Domo Community!
Card Name vs Card Title (for cards that have the same title)
I manage multiple brands in our instance and we use different datasets and have different data points for our brands, but a lot of the cards have the same title. When searching for a card to add to a dashboard there is no way to see what dataset the card is associated with. I think it would be great if we could give our cards a name that is different from the card title, so it would be easier to identify which card goes with what.

Add a visual indicator to Drillable cards
It would be great if cards that had drill paths enabled had some kind of badge or visible indicator that would communicate to the user that there is a drill path enabled on the card.
Right now the only way to know is to try clicking on the card. A lot of functionality and usefulness can end up being hidden behind what looks like a normal card.
App Studio - Embed - Show/Hide Filter Controls
Idea: Provide the equivalent of the following 'Show filter bar' in Embed Dashboard for Embed Domo App
(Show filter bar in Embed Dashboard)
What we're trying to accomplish: Give internal Domo users ability to see and interact with the 'Add Filter' functionality available under the 'Controls' nav bar item, while hiding the 'Controls' nav bar item for viewer users accessing Apps via Embed/Domo Everywhere.
Example of Idea Implementation: (Add equivalent of 'Show filter bar' in Embed Domo App to show/hide filter controls in embedded app)
Export Magic ETL Code for External Version Control
In our current environment, we use an external repository (Bitbucket) to maintain version control and the ability to run detailed diffs before making changes to our SQL dataflows. It would be helpful to have a way to export either the code or some representation of the current state of a Magic ETL dataflow to be used in any external repository or project management software. This would allow us to benefit from new Magic ETL features without losing existing functionality.
Default to 0 decimal for numeric/currency
I change this default literally every time I add a field to a table and elsewhere in Domo. It's extra clicks each time (per field added to a table). Additionally, when other users create their own reports they rarely change the default behavior and it remains at two decimals, which reduces data comprehension.
For example, when the number is 1,520,400.94 I rarely care about that 94 cents and it's harder to perceive the number accurately.
Hope this is a frustration for others so that you enable a default to be set!
Bullet Chart Additions: Trellis, Choose which Data-labels
I would like to be able to trellis a bullet chart. Bullet charts were designed to show progress towards a large number of goals at a glance, but without the trellis, it functionally limits the number of goals that can be practically displayed in a single card.
Also, the labeling on a bullet chart gets very busy when trying to show multiple targets. There should be the option like on a bar+symbol graph to select which values get labels (actual, target, range1, range2, etc.)
CTRL + Z undo in Magic ETL
Love the new undo/redo in Magic! Would love to have undo/redo keyboard shortcuts.
Re: Pivot Table Subtotal Control
Agreed! I'd also add a couple requests to your idea, specifically for Pivot Table cards:
- Option to disable subtotals for individual value fields, similar to how it works for fields in Mega Tables
- Option to disable subtotals for individual row/column fields. Currently subtotals are available for all rows or all columns, but cards can become very messy for when they have many row fields that each have their own subtotals.
Analyzer Double Click to Add Dimensions/Measures
When creating a card in analyzer, it would be useful where if you double click the dimension/measure in the left-hand list it would automatically be added to the next open column space. For example, when I'm creating a mega table and need to add in tons of columns, I could just double click down the list and add them much more efficiently and quicker than having to click and drag to the correct spot.
