Re: SQL View of DataSets
@RobSomers unfortunately, "The Magic ETL is just a visual representation of SQl" this is not an accurate statement and is potentially misleading.
Although Magic ETL transforms borrow heavily from transforms we are accustomed to performing in SQL and even the Formula Tile allows you to write functions borrowed from MySQL, it is not accurate to assume that the engine underneath Magic ETL is a SQL database.
I believe the functions under the covers are implemented in Java and they are performing operations in more of a streaming text pipeline.
This might be splitting hairs, but it's important to understand because if you think of Magic as a database layer with Tables where you're issuing UPDATE commands against a set of records, it may discourage you from thinking of ways you might try to support Magic as it subdivides your tasks across multiple nodes for parallel processing.
In fact the biggest difference and improvement in Magic over your SQL pipelines (Adrenaline, Redshift, and MySQL) include
1) Magic does not have to load all the data into a table before it can be processing the data. Because the data is moving in a text stream, as first as the first row of data arrives it can start flowing through your ETL tiles.
2) Magic does not have to Index. (this is a double edged sword). Because Magic is not a database engine there is no concept of indexing. therefore JOINs, RANK, and SORT operations would be slower than the equivalent operation performed in Redshift or Adrenaline (assuming all other factors were equal).
Re: Single Value Card - Footer use Todays Date mysql like a summary number?
Unfortunately, the header and footer only accept static text. You could leverage the smart text feature and have the date built into the title of the card.
Re: Moving the position of DOMO page and subpages within the same page in DOMO
Hi @ozarkram check out this documentation on managing pages to see if this answers your question: https://domohelp.domo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043428253-Managing-Pages
Re: Single Value Card - Footer use Todays Date mysql like a summary number?
Hi @Canioagain, I don't think this is an option for the Single Value Gauge. I suggest trying a Dynamic Textbox card instead: https://domohelp.domo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042924514-Dynamic-Textbox
Re: Attempting to create unique rows for each possible value in a chosen column
@n____l____ It sounds like you will need to use a cross-join to get to your end goal of every Account/Product combination (https://www.w3resource.com/sql/joins/cross-join.php). Since cross-joins aren't a pre-configured option in the ETL Join tiles, you'll to do the following as a work-around:
- Create two separate Remove Duplicates tiles branching off of your original data - One to remove duplicates by Account and one by Product
- Add Constants after each Remove Duplicates to create a column called "Cross-Join Key" with a value of 1
- Join both branches together using the Cross-Join Key. Since these all have the same value, it will match every row of each table
Re: Date Filter Card Will Not Toggle
Hi @jkami last I checked, there are some limitations with using beast modes as page filters. I would start by using a formula tile in MagicETL to create your Date Filter column and use that for your filter instead.
Re: Date Filter Card Will Not Toggle
@jkami Have you looked into Filter Views (https://domohelp.domo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042923914)? It might be simpler to preset three filter views for last 15, 30, and 60 days.
Re: Date Filter Card Will Not Toggle
I'm not sure that you could create a filter for Rolling 15, 30, and 60 days all using the same beastmode. The issue would be that if you selected "Rolling 60 Days" then nothing from the rolling 30 or rolling 15 days would get through the filter. I think @MichelleH is on the right track with recommending filter views.
Re: Multi Tab in excel
That's correct, the file upload feature is a static datasource. You would need to manually update the file anytime new data was needed.
If you are looking for regularly updating a shared file... we have used a sharepoint connector or onedrive connector in those scenarios.
Re: Status tracking for hot board
@gbrown You'll want to use an ETL with the Rank & Window tile to create a 'Current Status' column. You'll want to do use RowNumber and order on Timestamp in descending order, and then partition by part number (and owner if a part number can have multiple owners at the same time). This will give the row with the latest time stamp a row number of 1. You'll then filter the rows to only include row number 1 and you can rename your status column to 'Current Status' in order to differentiate it for the original status column. Then join this back to your original data set, and you can filter out in the ETL or on your card, any row that has 'Current Status' = 'Completed'. Then if it ever pops up in the data again and is in process, it will appear again because that's the latest status.
