I've mocked up some data and produced this using a nested bar chart.
Within the general tab I selected these options which in mind sorts based on the totals of each code and then limits the chart to 10 items. Does this help resolve your issue?

we had a big ruckus from our end users on this issue, which is understandable as this should be a standard feature. When we contacted support, we were told that this is expected functionality and that there was no intention to develop anything to accommodate this feature. This is a highly unfavorable response to a request for something that is fairly basic and standard.

@user00344 that is a great idea to be able to set the default value with a function. Current_Date or Last 30 Days. Or you could even get creative with some case statements...

@arzconci Yes, what you posted should work if you move the first open parenthesis to after the word "when".
Anyone experiencing issues with the Alpha Vantage connector?
I have been getting the error: "Could not authenticate. Please check your credentials." for the past three days. Previously, the two datasets using the Alpha Vantage connector ran for three months without error.
I just tried using a new API key and it did not work either.
Is there a solution to this, or better yet, a method of retrieving historical stock price data without having to use Alpha Vantage?

You can use the LEAST function to select the smallest value of dates
LEAST(`Observation Date`, `Admit Date`)
If the observation date is null then you'll want to default it to the admit date via a COALESCE or IFNULL:
LEAST(COALESCE(`Observation Date`, `Admit Date`), `Admit Date`)

Regular expressions are your friend in this case. You could ignore any non-alphanumeric characters in your string with something like this with a formula tile:
REGEXP_REPLACE(`field`, '[^a-zA-Z0-9]', '')
[] = Group of possible characters
^ = NOT
a-zA-Z any letter
0-9 = any digit

The MySQL dataflow runs slower because it must transfer 16MM rows to the MySQL server process it and then transfer the data back. Queuing via the api doesn’t need to transfer the data across systems so it’ll be much faster
