A scanned doc won't show preview on the card and allows only download to view

I've scanned a document with my scanner and when it's uploaded to a doc card there is no preview to see the document and the only way to view is by clicking 'download.'
The same issue does not occur with documents emailed to me or pulled digitally but only from the scan. Please help!
I've attached a picture showing 2 different doc cards - 1 with a preview (from a doc created in Google Docs) and 1 without a preview (from scanner) that only allows a download to view.

What are the file types of the two files? Have you tries saving your scan in an image format (GIF, JPG, PNG) instead of as a PDF and using that?
