Re: Any tips on how to clean Typo's in a dataset?
@Joe_Pitcher I second @ggenovese's advice. I would also recommend adding validation rules to manual data sources whenever possible to prevent these data quality issues upstream. For example, if your data is coming from a spreadsheet then consider adding drop-downs and datatype validation in the spreadsheet so that the users are required to enter consistent values.
Re: Any tips on how to clean Typo's in a dataset?
No problem! The REPLACE() function would work inside of either a Magic ETL or in a Beast Mode inside of a card. The function will strip out the pipes "|" and replace with SPACE and strip out the periods "." and not replace those with anything.
If you want to go the ETL route you'd use an Add Formula tile, name it the same name as your Company Name column and paste the two replaces inside where the formula goes.
The process for a beast mode in a card is pretty similar, inside of Analyzer you would click "Create a Calculated Field" and create the Beast Mode. One thing to note however is that inside the card you would have to give it a different name because in this case you're creating a new field rather than overwriting an existing one as you would have in the ETL

Thank you @ggenovese that has worked really well.
Re: YOY reporting based on Fiscal Week
@scpradhan There is a feature called Fiscal Calendar that you can use to filter and compare dates based on your company calendar. If you haven't already I'd recommend reaching out to your account team to get one enabled.
Re: Ability to Default 'Send email notifications' to Unchecked
Thanks for this feedback, this capability is implemented and is in the Company Overview page in admin to enable. If admin user unchecks the box then it will hide the send notification email option during sharing.
Re: Sum Distinct Not working Correctly in the Total
I'm sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I'm dealing with this now.
I have a dataset that has some duplicate values (Distance), but I need to keep them because another field is unique for filtering only (SupplierCode) - so these extra rows should not be considered in the 'Distance' SUM.
However, I also have duplicate 'Distance' values that are unique in every other field, so essentially they DO need considered in the 'Distance' SUM because they are actually unique when considered against the whole row.
Using SUM() or SUM(DISTINCT()) gives me incorrect results.
My fix was to use a "Rank & Window" tile in the ETL, partitioned appropriately so that truly unique values have a unique rank. Then I add a 'Distance' + 'Rank' formula and run the ETL. This makes every 'Distance' value unique, except for the ones that were intentionally duplicated for the additional 'SupplierCode' filtering field (assuming I partioned the Rank & Window correctly).
Lastly, in the beast mode, I used SUM(DISTINCT 'Distance') - SUM(DISTINCT 'Rank'). This aggregates everything that should be considered, then restores 'Distance' back to its original value before the ETL calculation.
Hope that makes sense. There may have been an easier way but I'll consider this one a victory.
Re: Rank and Window Function - SUM
If you make Following = 0 then you will get a running sum, it will sum all the preceding records in the partition and none of the following records. If what you were wanting was no frame at all, so the total for each partition placed on each row in the partition, then I find it's best to use a group by and join the sum back to the main dataset. Hope that helps!
API for DataSet tags
I am having trouble trying to pull values from the Domo API, to identify datasets by "tag". In data center, if I tag some of my datasets as "API", I want to use Python to pull the list of all datasets with that tag.
There's a discussion at this link but it doesn't give a solution:
I can get a list of my Domo datasets and search by name using "https://api.domo.com/v1/datasets". But the list I need doesn't have a common string in the names. Therefore I need the type or tag. I'm looking for the datasets associated to the code in my Jupyter notebooks.
