Re: How do I get "smart text" I have added to my card to show in the Excel file when I export?
I concur with @ColemenWilson. The smart text is part of the visual layer in Domo, which doesn't export. Only the table data exports. The obvious work-around would be to include a calculated field in your dataset and include it in the card's data table.
DATE_FORMAT(CURRENT_DATE(), '%Y-%m-%d')
Product APIs Postman Collection
I am launching my Postman collection of the Domo Product APIs to the public. This collection contains most endpoints and has been well documented using Postman's new types feature. I am joining Domo next week as the new MajorDomo and wanted this in the hands of the Domo community ASAP. I'll be working with the product team to get my efforts rolled into the official Domo developer documentation in the coming months. I can't wait to see the incredible ways this gets used!
The Domo Product APIs are the APIs that drive the entire Domo platform behind the scenes. Anything you can do via the user interface in Domo can be done via the Product APIs.
While this Postman collection is extensive, it isn't 100% comprehensive. Some endpoints and possible field values are missing. Most endpoints don't have response examples yet. I plan to continue to update this collection over time. If you fork this collection, you can pull these new updates as they become available to merge into your fork. You can also explore the Product APIs yourself by using a combination of this collection and the developer tools network console in your browser while in Domo. You can learn more about the developer tools in Google Chrome here.

Re: Schema and Meta Select Tiles
Use case is when you want to edit the schema of a dataset. Here are the steps to use the tile:
- Drag the Schema tile onto the canvas and connect it to an input. This surfaces the schema as a table with the Column Names, Expressions, and Data Types of the input.
- Connect the Schema tile to other Magic tiles like the Formula, the String Operations, and more to revise the schema. The Schema tile introduces a new data type called “Expression”. Use the in-tool documentation in the Formula tile to see details about that data type.
- Once you have your schema exactly as you want it, drag out the Meta Select tile. The Meta Select tile requires two inputs – the last tile in the path of your modified schema, and the original input itself. The Meta Select tile applies the changes made to your schema to the input dynamically.
In this example below, I've added "test." in front of each column name dynamically:

Re: More Efficient YoY Actual to Budget View
Glad it helped. One note of caution: the problem with using BeastMode rather than ETL to force your data wide is it doesn't actually change structure of the data, just relabels it. Prior year data are still on different rows than current years. So if you try to do anything with your date variable, like filter it or graph-by, you'll lose the prior data, or it won't group in the way you're trying to group.
As a simplified example, this is basically what you're doing now (I think):
Date | Value | BeastMode Month | BeastMode Series |
|---|---|---|---|
1/1/2001 | 10 | January | 2001 |
1/1/2002 | 20 | January | 2002 |
1/1/2003 | 30 | January | 2003 |
1/1/2004 | 40 | January | 2004 |
1/1/2005 | 50 | January | 2005 |
1/1/2006 | 60 | January | 2006 |
1/1/2007 | 70 | January | 2007 |
This is how I'm saying you should restructure your data:
Date | Value | Last Year's Value | Two years ago value |
|---|---|---|---|
1/1/2003 | 30 | 20 | 10 |
1/1/2004 | 40 | 30 | 20 |
1/1/2005 | 50 | 40 | 30 |
1/1/2006 | 60 | 50 | 40 |
1/1/2007 | 70 | 60 | 50 |
The benefit being able to use the date variable in the graph-by and filter without losing the prior years data to compare against it, because it's all on the same row.
Re: More Efficient YoY Actual to Budget View
Hi @Data_Devon - I'd recommend restructuring your data to allow more flexible period over period analysis. I've done a write up here with it: https://community-forums.domo.com/main/discussion/53481/a-more-flexible-way-to-do-period-over-period-comparisons#latest
