Domo, it's time to make your X axis smarter. Please, if the x axis variable is a date, by default use the time scale. If the x axis variable is a number, by default, we need to be sorting ascending numeric order, and if the x axis is a categorical variable, it can be left alone.
And for the love of all that is right and true, a sort on a series or anything else should NEVER override the "never use time scale = FALSE" order on the x axis. It shouldn't even be an option.
I know there are work arounds for all of these things, but it's ludicrous that a BI tool isn't solid on the use of basic axes.
PS) Never Use Time Scale being set to false as the only way to get my axis date sorted is so weird. Why the double negative? How about Use Time Scale = True?
