Business Glossary

The Glossary module serves the purpose of defining and explaining the data being used within an organization. It acts as a reference point that provides context to the data, helping users from both business and IT departments understand it better and speak one language, one vocabulary. This module manages properties and relationships between different data elements to create a knowledge base accessible to all users. It covers various types of objects such as business terms, indicators, concepts, and dimensions.

Key objects and characteristics commonly found in a glossary include:
. Universe/Domain: Name (mandatory), description, ownership
. Concept/sub-Domain: Name (mandatory), description, ownership
. Business Term: Name (mandatory), description, CDE (Critical Data Element), PII (Personally Identifiable Information)
Custom attributes should also be created as needed

Additionally, the glossary module facilitates linking to other objects within the glossary or catalog (datasets, columns, cards, visualizations, etc.). These relationships can be described using terms like "implemented by," "used for computation of," "specializes," "generalizes," "is a synonym of," "is used by," among others. Cataloging these relationships adds another layer of information for both business and IT users, enabling them to extract valuable insights from the stored information.

By bridging functional aspects with technical details, the Glossary module enhances the interpretation of information stored in DOMO. This integration of functional and technical elements enriches the understanding and utilization of data within the organization, ultimately leading to more informed decision-making processes

  • Another feature that would be helpful to include in this is the ability to search for columns, select some or all that have the same name to add a link and/or common description to them.

  • And be able use the tag functionality for this as well
