Hi Domo Community,
I'm submitting this idea on behalf of a customer who ran into a limitation with Period-over-Period (PoP) charts used as interactive filters.
Current Behavior: When a Period-over-Period Grouped Bar chart is used as an interactive filter on a dashboard or App, clicking on a historical quarter (e.g., 2024-Q2) filters other cards to the current year's equivalent (e.g., 2027-Q2) instead of the actual historical period clicked. This is because the PoP x-axis remaps all historical dates onto the current year for comparison purposes.
Expected Behavior: Clicking on a bar representing a historical period (e.g., 2024-Q2) should filter other cards to that actual historical date range, not the current-year equivalent.
Use Case: A user has a Period-over-Period Grouped Bar chart configured with:
- X-axis: Last Day of Month
- Y-axis: Sales
- Date Range: This Year
- Graph by: Quarter
- Compare to: Year over Year (1, 2, 3 years ago)
They want users to click on any quarter bar — including historical ones — and have all other dashboard cards filter to that specific period. Currently this is not possible with native PoP charts.
Proposed Enhancement: Allow Period-over-Period charts to pass the actual underlying date range of the clicked bar as an interactive filter, rather than the remapped current-year equivalent.
Workarounds Currently Available:
- Use a standard Grouped Bar chart alongside the PoP chart as the filter source
- Add a Date Selector filter card for manual period selection
We believe this enhancement would significantly improve the usability of PoP charts for customers who rely on year-over-year comparisons with interactive dashboards.
Thank you for considering this! 🙏
