Analyzer has some tools for creating reference lines: they offer a "goal" option on y-axis fields that allow you to enter a constant value, max and min lines, as well as regression lines, projections, and total lines.
I'd love to be able to have more control over reference lines, including:
- Vertical reference lines:
- For example, I may want a vertical reference line to delineate a change at a certain point in time, such as a vertical bar at March of 2020 showing the covid pandemic.
- Both vertical or horizontal reference lines based on a field or calculated field with aggregation options (total, average, sum, min, max etc.) or as a constant
- EX: Say I have a field called "Value" and a field called "Target" and a filter that includes "Product". I could graph the "value" on the y axis, "date" on the x axis, and the average of "Target" as a reference line. As I filter through products, the target would change based on the selected product, rather than being restricted to a manually entered constant value.
- Ability to label the reference line however I want, either with a field or custom text, not stuck with just "Min" "Max" or "Goal"
Tableau has a great way to do this that can be understood at this link Reference Lines, Bands, Distributions, and Boxes - Tableau
