The current method of creating tags within Domo is quite straightforward and simple, and probably for many smaller organisations the ability for anyone to create a new tag would be quite useful.
The lack of control over the different variations of tags in larger organisations though can result in things becoming messy. Especially when the Tag is too long for the display (similar to the issue identified here Improve Readability for Long Column Headers in Color Rules Dialog), users are unable to see the one they are after if the beginning of the tag is the same for multiple.
For example, when tagging something as "Technical Data Steward: " then a particular area, can make it difficult to identify the correct tag. The only way is select the one you think it is, then save it. If it's wrong, you would need to return into the dialog and pick another.
Ideally these issues would be fixed in 2 ways:
1. Increase the width of the Tag Dialog popup - Additional space could be added by having the Tag list and the Tags on this Dataset above/below each other rather than side-by-side
2. Add a control into the Admin settings that would prevent the creation of new tags unless they have a certain grant or role (possibly selectable under the setting), preventing users from creating multiple versions of what should be the same tag.
This would leave the ability for all users to create new tags in instances for those organisations that would like to keep that option.
