Join vs Append

I have one dataset date/dept/machine/product/defect/no of def. Second dataset is date/dept/machine/vol. There will be multiple defects on the same date from the same dept and same machine (defect and product may differ). When I join this causes the vol to duplicate for each product / defect entry. How do I create a beast mode that only pulls the volume once for each day. I am trying to calculate Parts per Million (no of def (each day) / vol * 100000). I then want to graph Parts per Million as a line and defect as stacked bar on the graph. Hopefully this is enough detail for someone to provide some guidance.

I hope I understood your question correctly. Here's my attempt.

Assume Defect DS has these values. ie 01 Jan ~ 30 Defects, 02 Jan ~ 48 Defects

Machine Volume DS has these values. ie 01 Jan ~ 6000 vol, 02 Jan ~ 15000 vol

Parts per Million (no of def (each day) / vol * 100000)

    - 01 Jan = 30 / 6000 *100000 = 500

    - 02 Jan = 48 / 15000 * 100000 = 320

    Append the data

    2 Beast Modes

Appreciate you taking the time to create a trial dataset to show how this might work. Took me a couple tries to work it out but seems to be work so far. Thank you.
